Target group

All persons in Estonia who carry out hot work, supervise hot work or issue hot work permits, and who are involved with hot work on a daily basis.

Training for performing hot work is prescribed by the Minister of the Interior’s Regulation No. 38 (adopted on 30.08.2010), “Requirements for Hot Work Training and Hot Work Certificate.” The regulation is established based on Section 14(4) of the Fire Safety Act.

In Estonia, hot work may be performed as an economic activity by a person who holds a professional certificate or has completed hot work training and possesses a valid hot work certificate. The certificate is valid in Estonia, and the validity period is 5 years.

Hot work includes various welding jobs (gas, electric), cutting metal with cutting discs or flammable liquids, using gas flames, heating and using bitumen or other flammable mastics and other activities involving flames, sparks or temperatures that may ignite surrounding combustible materials, thereby creating a real fire hazard.

Objectives

The training provides knowledge and skills for performing hot work safely and using fire extinguishers in case of a fire. Those who complete the training will be able to assess the risks associated with the use of fire, recognise different types of fire extinguishers, know how to use a fire extinguisher and be familiar with relevant legal regulations.

The hot work performer is provided with the knowledge and skills for performing hot work safely and using fire extinguishers in case of a fire.

Certificate

The training concludes with a fire extinguishing exercise and a knowledge assessment; participants who successfully complete both will receive a certificate.

Length of training

The duration of the training is 7 academic hours, including 6 academic hours of theoretical instruction, plus 1 academic hour for practical training and knowledge assessment.

The price includes training, practical fire extinguishing exercises, study materials and a certificate.
