Target group

Individuals who are currently working or have previously worked as caregivers, or who are involved in family caregiving and wish to enhance their knowledge in the field of caregiving.

Objectives

The aim of the training is to prepare caregivers who will support and assist individuals in need with organising their lives and achieving the highest possible quality of life according to a specific plan (including a rehabilitation plan and a care plan). The training is also suitable as a preparatory course for the caregiver (level 3) certification exam.

Topics covered

    1. CARE WORKER CODE OF ETHICS AND APPLICATION FOR PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION (4 AH)

    Basic principles of professional ethics. Conflicts of values, confidentiality, and compliance with requirements.The process of applying for certification, requirements, and documentation.

    2. COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN SOCIAL WORK (8 AH)

    Key communication skills and the use of appropriate communication methods. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Techniques for active listening. Positive self-assertion. Prevention and management of conflicts. Participation in teamwork and cooperation skills.

    3. FUNDAMENTALS OF CARE AND CARE PROCEDURES (8 AH)

    Activities of daily living and the factors that influence them. Common health issues of clients. Care procedures in community care, residential care and health care institutions. Health and social care services, their definitions, content, and delivery conditions across the life stages.

    4. DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY AND HUMAN LIFE CYCLE (4 AH)

    Basics of developmental psychology. Theory of the life cycle. Considering age-related physical, mental and social development stages and behavioural changes in social work.

    5. ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY (14 AH)

    Introduction to anatomy. Professional terminology. Basic concepts. Support and locomotor systems. Heart and circulatory system. Respiratory system. Digestive system and gastrointestinal tract. Urinary and reproductive systems. Nervous system. Endocrine glands. Sensory organs. Integumentary system.

    6. GUIDANCE ON HYGIENE AND CARE PROCEDURES (practical) (8 AH)

    Antisepsis and hygiene. Hand hygiene. Tidying the client’s bed. Assisting clients with bathing (including intimate care for both men and women). Assessing skin condition. Nail and hair care.

    7. ERGONOMICS AND ASSISTIVE DEVICES (practical) (6 AH)

    General principles of ergonomics. Techniques for transferring clients: transferring without aids, using a sliding sheet and frame, pivoting and lifting. Techniques for elevating clients: without aids and with aids (towel, sliding sheet, roll, frame). Client positioning: turning from supine to lateral and back, correcting positions and providing support. Assisting clients in sitting on the edge of the bed, standing and walking. Assisting clients with lateral transfer to a wheelchair.

    8. DISEASES, DISORDERS, AND IMPAIRMENTS, THEIR CAUSES AND ASSESSING CLIENT NEEDS BASED ON THEIR ACTIVITIES AND BEHAVIOURS IN LIFE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS (8 AH)

    Measuring health indicators (e.g. body temperature, pulse, respiration, arterial blood pressure and blood sugar) and monitoring health status. Monitoring and caring for skin condition, assisting nurses with nursing procedures. Care for various diseases: internal, surgical, neurological, infectious, skin and sexually transmitted diseases, ENT, mental health and behavioural disorders.

    9. BASICS OF PHARMACOLOGY (4 AH)

    Terminology. Instructions for medication use, effects, dosage, administration and storage. Forms of medication. Acquiring medications. Guiding and assisting clients in administering medications. Home pharmacy.

    10. HOUSEHOLD MANAGEMENT TASKS (6 AH)

    The essence and general principles of home economics. Importance and planning of cleaning tasks. Cleaning textiles – usage and maintenance of microfiber textiles. Necessary supplies and cleaning agents for modern home cleaning. Hygiene maintenance in living spaces – routine cleaning and deep cleaning. Household parasites and their extermination. Compliance with safety requirements in cleaning tasks.

    11. BASICS OF NUTRITION (4 AH)

    Fundamentals of healthy eating. Nutritional problems. Nutrition in different cultures.

    12. CARE FOR THE DYING (4 AH)

    Death and dying. Concepts, types and causes of death.

    Death at different life stages. Death in the family, reactions of family members. Stages of crisis, spiritual care and preparation for death. Dignified passing. Preparing the deceased.

    13. SELF-ANALYSIS OF PRACTICAL WORK EXPERIENCE (8 AH)

    Requirements for professional self-analysis. Structure and content of self-analysis. Practical advice for preparing self-analysis for the caregiver certification exam. Conducting self-analysis as an independent task.

    14. FIRST AID TRAINING (16 AH)

    Basic knowledge and practical skills for saving a victim’s life in an emergency and providing first aid.

    NB! Participants may choose to omit the first aid module, resulting in a reduction of the training fee by €85.

    15. FOOD HYGIENE TRAINING (6 AH)

    Basic knowledge of food hygiene and personal hygiene requirements and guarantees.

    NB! Participants may choose to omit the food hygiene module, resulting in a reduction of the training fee by €28.

  • The concepts of illness and health, including key terms such as disease, diagnosis, symptom, syndrome, and functional capacity
  • Various cleaning methods and supplies for home use, along with adherence to safety protocols
  • How to recognise common household parasites and take appropriate action to prevent their spread
  • The basics of food safety, age-related nutrition specifics and principles of healthy eating
  • How to explain to clients the effects of meal timing, food choices, food intolerances and food allergies on health
  • The principles of creating a care plan, as well as planning and executing necessary care and grooming procedures
  • Ergonomic work techniques and aids applicable in care activities
  • An understanding of the human body’s functions, main physiological processes, their significance, and ways to reduce health risks
  • Hygiene rules and the use of personal protective equipment for both the caregiver and the client
  • The fundamental principles of personal and client hygiene care, including guidelines for the caregiver’s appearance
  • Basic pharmacology concepts, recognition of different medication forms, and knowledge of procurement and administration procedures
  • Principles of caring for the dying and providing spiritual support to individuals and their loved ones during crisis stages;
  • The ability to compile a self-analysis of practical work experience
  • Skills to provide first aid

Certificate

The assessment of learning outcomes is conducted through a knowledge test (multiple-choice questions / open questions), practical exercises and group work. Upon completion of the studies, a certificate is issued to the graduate if the participant has attended and completed at least 80% of the curriculum and has passed the written knowledge test with a positive result. A certificate of attendance will be issued if the learner participated in less than 80% of the curriculum. The certificate will be issued according to the number of contact hours attended and the topics covered.

Length of training

The total volume of the training is 108 academic hours, of which 104 hours are interactive classroom work, including 21 academic hours of practical work and 4 academic hours of independent study.

Price contains

The price includes lecture, discussions, practical exercises, learning materials, including instructional videos, and a certificate / proof of completion.

If the participant has completed first aid training and/or food hygiene training or plans to complete it elsewhere, they may choose to skip the first aid and/or food hygiene module in this training. In this case, the training fee will be reduced by 85 euros (for first aid) or 28 euros (for food hygiene), respectively.
